Tetování ve starém Egyptě

Tattooing in Ancient Egypt – seeking for the god’s protection and beauty.

Tattooing was practised by the Ancient Egyptians around 2000 BC. The oldest physical evidence for tattooing was recovered from Middle Kingdom and Nubian C-Group contexts. The geometric patterns on “paddle dolls”, “female companions of the dead” and female ex voto statuettes as well as the Bes representations on women dancers` thighs could be eventually explained as tattoo (or rather painted symbols?; 2000–1000 BC). There is no hard evidence for the tattooing tools. Tattooing in Ancient Egypt appears to have been a custom practised exclusively on women.
