Horor tranzitní dopravy ve městech

Town and transportation by Michal Vojtíšek and Jan Topinka.

Exhaust emissions of modern as well as older diesel engines are heavily dependent not only on the quality their design, calibration and maintenance, but also on their operating conditions. During idle, the combustion quality deteriorates, the temperature of internal surfaces of the engine and catalytic aftertreatment devices decreases, and the emissions of particulate matter, especially nanoparticles, are increasing not only during idling, but also during subsequent operation at a load. Under such conditions, the particulate matter emissions are increased severalfold compared to steady driving. Transportation planning and management decisions aimed to limit congestion and ensure smooth passage of transit trucks may offer a relatively expedient and inexpensive measure to curb the transit truck particle emissions problem.
